Monday, July 27th, the day before the ESIP meeting starts, we’ll host a hackday. Plan to arrive in Austin to join us Monday afternoon. “Hackday” to our NASA Openscapes and earthaccess communities means we will be collaboratively problem-solving and strategizing, and translating ideas into action. This includes decisions, code, and documentation.
Purpose: to gather anyone interested who’s going to ESIP, and hack on “making things easier for scientists”: STAC, virtualizarr, earthaccess (What would a single query look like for different agencies i.e. lemons and oranges), point-collocation (python library; video) between data sets, … your choice!
Outcomes: to connect interested folks and strengthen the community, to move forward on decisions and ideas.
Process: to have a light and purposeful plan, influenced from recent events like earthaccess hackday. Below are the starting details, please check back for more details as we get closer! We will have a way to contribute ideas ahead of the event, likely as a Google Doc or GitHub repo.
- Date: Monday, July 27, 2026
- Time: 1-6pm local Austin time (Central Time)
- Where: In person at the ESIP meeting hotel (https://2026julyesipmeeting.sched.com)
- Who: Folks interested in working together across the ESIP community and contributing to “making things easier for scientists” from policy, social and technical perspectives.
- Cost: Free. The space is generously provided by ESIP and coordinated by the Openscapes community.
